TANZ! Dance takes centre stage at the Potsdam Sanssouci 2024 Festival
Music and movement have been inseparable since the dawn of humanity. Dance structures and accompanies all areas of human life: it makes festivals and religious rites understandable, organises social interaction and reflects social hierarchies. However, the most important role of dance is and remains the experience of community and, of course, the spontaneous expression of joie de vivre.
The Sanssouci Music Festival in Potsdam 2024 is devoted to these different facets of dance. This is an opportunity to present a sympathetic creation by Molière and Jean Baptiste Lully: the comedy-ballet "Le Mariage forcé", an exuberant mix of theatre, dance and music dating from 1664, in which Louis XIV himself danced. With this production, the music festival bids farewell to the Théâtre du Palais at the Nouveau Palais for several years, where the artisans will temporarily take over the reins.
Le Mariage forcé by Molière and Lully will be performed at the Musikfestspiele on 21, 22 and 23 June 2024.
