"Mozart in Salzburg"
Season
2024/2025
Short masses by Mozart and works by the Haydn brothers

"Our church music is very different from that of Italy, especially as a mass, even the most solemn, the one that the prince-archbishop says himself, must not last more than three quarters of an hour. It takes special study to succeed in this kind of composition. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (4 September 1776)

Additional information
"The brevity of these Salzburg Masses, due to an officiant, Prince-Archbishop Colloredo, who preferred the speed of the services to the heavy, endless pomp of the Great Masses, means that we can perform two in the same evening. Adding a prelude, gradual, offertory and communion motet was child's play and a researcher's delight, as we dipped into the works of the Haydn brothers, Michael and Joseph. None of our authors takes the cake, all three of them concentrating on serving the divine service to the best of their ability and with all their artistry! A few minutes of happiness thanks to a bishop in a hurry - that's heaven, isn't it?" Hervé Niquet
